Motherhood is often about sacrificing our own wants and needs for those of our children.

In many cases, this is an admirable trait… but not when it comes to our health.

As busy moms, we must make our own health a priority.

I will never be the sitcom perfect mother, but I try hard to be the best mother I can to my boys and that requires a whole lot of energy, stamina and balance as I juggle all that daily life throws our way.

Balance is something we all must strive to achieve in order to live a happy and healthy life, and to model this type of lifestyle for our kids.

If you’re a busy mom, here are 3 habits to keep you healthy, happy and balanced:

1. Break a sweat. You don’t have to spend hours at the gym to get results. I’m all about making time to make health a priority, and I’m not bashing moms who regularly hit the gym…. But I do hope we will all remember to practice BALANCE as we navigate life as busy moms.

Personally, I find I’m a better, more patient mom when I make time to get a workout in… But I also don’t want to miss lots of time with my boys just so I can get my workout in. That’s why I created workouts that can be done entirely from HOME! (Yes, you can get slim without the gym).

All I need is a set of dumbbells, a yoga mat and some sweat and effort, and I get fat burning results without leaving home.  (Click here to read 5 REASONS YOU NEED TOTAL BODY WORKOUTS)

2. Find a way to relieve some stress. Motherhood can seem overwhelming at times. One of the best ways to reduce stress is to get moving.

Whether it’s a 5 minute walk, a yoga workout, or a family paddle board adventure (our current favorite), exercise is a wonderful way to reduces stress.

Be sure to make time for leisurely activity to reduce stress.  (Click here to read more about how to balance the STRESS HORMONE CORTISOL)

3. Fuel your body. Let’s face it, as busy moms, we have a lot on our metaphorical “plates.” From diapers to dishes, laundry to little league, school, work, the list goes on. Busy women need all the help we can get when it comes to balancing hunger, managing cravings, and giving us energy to get through our busy days.

That’s why the food we put on our actual PLATES is essential to fat loss. Eating a healthy diet that is full of high quality protein is key.  As a busy mom who makes health and fitness a priority, Lorissa’s Kitchen keeps me fueled and enables me to live my best, healthy life – I have the energy I need not just for me, but for my family!

Life is busy, but these are simple habits we can do to keep our bodies healthy, happy and balanced.

Our kids model what they see, so be sure you’re living the lifestyle you want them to emulate…. If you want to train up a child in the way they should go, you have to go that way yourself!
