A few years ago, when Patrick was deployed to Afghanistan, I determined to get into the best shape of my life. I worked out hard, ate clean, and restricted my calories–I expected results and fast!
At the time, I worked as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, and Health & Wellness director at my local gym. So in addition to keeping close tabs on my diet, I spent almost every waking moment at the gym. I even participated in both the morning and evening workouts that our gym offered.
But for some reason, I was NOT seeing the results I wanted or reaching my goals at all.
In fact, I was in the worst shape of my life! I’ve been in the fitness industry for a long time–I have a degree in Exercise Physiology, for crying out loud. It’s not like I didn’t know how to lose weight. But I couldn’t seem to figure out why I was working harder than ever before yet nothing seemed to be working.

It’s crazy to think about, especially when I working so hard, but I was actually sabotaging my ability to gain any fat loss results without even knowing it.
I consider myself a reasonably smart woman. Obviously I knew stuffing my face with ice cream and tortilla chips (You know I love Mexican food!) would definitely NOT get me to my fat loss goals. But I DIDN’T eat chips, I ate chicken & broccoli! And I spent hours at the gym!
I also knew a hot fudge sundae dripping with chocolate sauce and peanut butter (Yeah, I also love peanut butter!) was not going to get me back into my skinny jeans. BUT I remained completely unaware of some BIG female fat loss mistakes that were making their way into my current routine.
And on top of that, I completely overlooked the most important aspect of female body change: fixing my fat fighting hormones!
No wonder I wasn’t getting anywhere! No matter what I did with my training and nutrition, my crazy imbalance of hormones caused my body to hold on to fat!
I finally realized I had to take the advice I gave so many of my clients…I had to fix my fat fighting hormones.
So, I actually decreased the amount of time I spent working out and focused on the right types of workouts. Additionally, I slept more and added some calories back into my diet. (That’s right–I ate MORE to weigh LESS!) Most importantly, I began working to balance my fat fighting hormones by every means possible. I saw a change in my physique almost instantly!
RESULTS? You betcha! The fat started melting off!
Even after the many changes that come as a mom, I’ve kept my fat fighting hormones balanced. Now I’m in the best shape of my life–without spending hours at the gym or living off of just chicken and broccoli (yuck!).
