(8 Months) Pregnant Burpees

On Facebook I mentioned that I was at Bikini Boot Camp doing some burpees, step-ups and squats this morning… and that Coach Jennifer had me (and the rest of the Bikini Boot Campers) SWEATING like CRAZY.

After some great posts about burpees inducing delivery (I’d be all for that) and pregnancies where you could barely tie your own shoes, the crowd spoke…. YOU WANT TO SEE THE PREGNANT BURPEES!!!

So without further ado….

Burpees are one of my favorite exercises.  All you need are 10 good burpees and, no matter how fit, you will be breathless.  Add a few rounds into your current HIIT workout and you’ll be hot and sweaty in no time.

How to Perform a Burpee (with Pushups/Jumps):

  1. Drop down into the squat position.
  2. Place your hands on the ground about shoulder width apart while simultaneously jumping your legs back so that you are in the standard pushup position.
  3. Perform a pushup.
  4. As you come up from the pushup jump your legs forward so that you are back in the squat position.
  5. From the squat position jump straight up so that your feet leave the ground and your arms come up over your head.

Just think about the amount of mass (your entire body weight) you move over a big distance (your full height plus the height of your vertical jump) and you’ll understand just how many calories you can quickly burn with this exercise.

THEN factor in the extra weight of a giant watermelon in your belly, and… yeah…. Very few movements hit as many muscle groups and deliver as intense a cardiovascular workout.
