One which is gaining a particular amount of traction in the last few years is keto dieting. This has grown in popularity recently and seems only set to continue to do so. Its proponents speak of many great properties and benefits to be enjoyed, and it genuinely seems as though there is some scientific evidence to back up a number of the claims.
But what exactly is it, and is it something that you would be able to make use of in your own life?

KETO DIET: What It Is
First of all, we need to be clear on what it actually is and how it functions, and what the general philosophy behind it might be. Put simply, a ketogenic diet is about keeping your body at the level where it is producing ‘ketones’, which are essentially small fuel molecules which act as a secondary food source within the body.
They are produced when you eat very few carbs, and only a little protein, and so this is the basis of the keto diet. When you are fully running on a ketogenic diet, you get to a point where your body is running mostly on fat, which of course means that that fat is burning off very effectively and quickly.
As you can see, this is why it is such a good dieting method for so many people. That’s the basis of the keto diet – but what do you actually need to do to make sure that you are doing it right, and mostly remaining in that all-important keto state?
KETO DIET: How It Works
The main thing you need to make sure of is that you are not eating too many carbs. As long as you are keeping your carbs low, you will find that you are going to be able to retain that keto state, and most of all eating few carbs is always one of the best things to do if you are trying to lose weight anyway.
That means avoiding very starchy or sugary things too, and as you can start to see this diet is actually much more of a challenge than you might have thought. Your food should also be fairly high in fat, so that you can get your body to run off those fat reserves primarily, and that is the part of the diet that many people find to be counter-intuitive. However, it is necessary if you want to remain in keto and ensure that you are really going to lose a lot of weight.
In terms of what to drink, you will find that the most important is water – of course – and that you should try to avoid alcohol wherever possible. Not only is it generally bad for you, but it often contains carbs to some degree, and you are trying to have as few of those as possible of course.
KETO DIET: Other Considerations
Although that is pretty much the brunt of it, you will also want to make sure that you are thinking of any other considerations that might help to make it easier or might mean that it is going to be considerably more successful. Of these, there are many things to think about, and one of the major ones is probably going to bne exercise.
It is tricky to know exactly how much exercise you should be doing, as it varies so much from person to person, but in general you should keep it moderate and make sure that you are focusing mostly on cardiovascular exercises.
