I do take the weekend off from weight training but sprint intervals are a great way to get the hormonal response you are looking for regarding fat loss.  Another great thing about sprints is you can do them wherever you are. And of course, if you have a good stroller and/or leash, it’s a quick workout that you can take your babies and dogs along on too!


Sprints: A Core Workout

Sprints Intervals

  1. Run as fast as you can for 30 seconds
  2. Recover with a walk for 30 seconds
  3. Repeat

I repeat this for anywhere between 12-15 minutes depending on how I am feeling. If you are not a sprinter I encourage you to at least try. My mom was visiting a couple weeks ago and she is not a runner but decided that she wanted to give them a try. She now calls me to tell me she ran sprints down her street during lunch. Practice makes progress!

Core Work

After I finish my sprints I head to the garage and give my core a quick and effective 10 minute workout. I pick 3 targeted core exercises and alternate with plank holds.

  1. 30 seconds leg climb
  2. Plank until failure
  3. 30 seconds scissor kicks
  4. Plank until failure
  5. 30 seconds bicycle crunch
  6. Plank until failure
  7. Repeat

Metabolic Finisher

To finish it up I do 2- 4 minutes of a metabolic finisher:

  1. 1 minute squat jumps
  2. 1 minute burpees w/ push up
  3. Repeat

At this point I am dripping sweat and have am feeling the burn without picking up my weights. This is all followed by a big protein filled breakfast, of course!
