BeyondFit Mom Transformation Project- Launched January 2014

Fit Mom Pregnancy Announcement

My fitness journey has taken many twists and turns over the years- I’ve been through several phases of life and had to adapt to each one of them.

Each came with its own joy & unique challenges.

  • Student:  I began studying for my degree in Exercise Physiology, I was all about the research and the science behind exercise.  As a young fitness pro, I had plenty of time to dedicate to meal prep and training, and I truly enjoyed that stage of my journey.  This was a very formative time for me and was when I really started to develop my fitness philosophy.
  • Wife:  When I was a newly married wife, healthy eating took a backseat to dinners with my husband (a meat & potatoes… and plenty of BREAD, kind of guy), and while it may not have been the most conducive to six pack abs or a tight tummy, it was a twist I enjoyed (but not too much 😉 ). It really helped me to develop a more real world approach to fitness and I started to understand the real challenges that face women in the real world.
  • Mom: When my husband deployed, I had a mission to get in the “best shape of my life” and had two long 9 months deployments to dedicate to fitness and getting some seriously amazing abs.  When he returned, I we decided to start a family and I traded my abs for a baby bump, enjoyed 9 months of growing a healthy, happy son, and then used the military training tactics from my husband to get my pre-baby body back in record time: just 12 short weeks, with only 3 hours per week of workouts (Let’s face it, busy moms don’t have time for much more!). I can say this time gave me a great appreciation for the fitness struggles that all moms have and put me on a mission to make fat loss for the everyday woman achievable.
  • Bikini Competitor:  After realizing you don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get results, I decided to take my fitness to the next level and hit the stage (just 7 months postpartum) for my first bikini competition.  I trained entirely at home, while Jackson was sleeping, and was able, once again to get into the best shape of my life (yes, even after having a baby!).

The time has come for yet another adventure…. A little “twist” if you will, on my fitness journey… and I want to invite you along for the ride….

Fit Mom Pregnancy AnnouncementBeyondFit Mom Transformation Project- Launched January 2014

I’m about to embark on a total body transformation that is sure to bring a lot of joy, some brand new challenges, and plenty of opportunities to learn and grow (and share with you) along the way.

While Jackson added “Become a Big Brother” to his “To Do” list, I’ve been working on a list of my own…

Here are a few of my “To Do” for the next few months:

  1. Rest.  I always tell my boot campers to “listen to your body first and to me second,” and for this upcoming body transformation, I’m going to have to practice what I preach.   While I may have been the three hour workout queen during my collage days, I’ve quickly realized that does more harm than good.  I’m fully prepared to keep up my regular, short duration, higher intensity workouts, but I also know that I may need to get some extra rest from time to time. And that’s ok. There’s no shame in resting. I have my whole life to get plenty of workouts in, so I’m going to get to bed early and get in those naps when I need them the most!
  2. Move daily!  Resting (goal #1) does not mean sitting on the couch all day.  While I may not be feeling like my usual self, I will make sure to keep up my regular workouts as much as possible, and will make sure- no matter what- that I’m walking daily.  Again, no shame in slowing down, as long as I continue to exercise my body!
  3. Use the 80/20 Rule!  Nutrition has never been as important as it is now!  I need quality nutrition that will fuel my body and give me the energy I need to complete the task.  I’ll be focusing on plenty of protein, lots and lots of healthy fats, as well as fresh fruits & veggies and carbohydates in moderation.  My goal is to choose healthier options 80% of the time and give myself some freedom to enjoy whatever I’m craving 20% of the time. (Pickles & ice cream, anyone?) This goal will keep me from losing my mind when those cravings strike but will still keep me on track and give my body the quality nutrients it needs.
  4. Ditch the Scale.  I’ve never been a fan of the scale (it’s a very poor way to measure progress). But now more than ever, it has no place in my plan.  Instead of working to shed a few pounds, which is the usual goal when you’re undergoing a body transformation, I plan to gain quite a few pounds during my transformation this year.

So are you ready for the adventure?

Will you join me in the fun and watch me GROW ANOTHER BABY?!
