My Strong Mom

Whether you’re lifting weights, lifting kids, or lifting trash bags… there are many benefits to being an ULTRA STRONG mom!
My mom was and continues to be the strongest woman I know. And after having kids of my own, I can finally appreciate what Mother’s Day means and why it’s so special to celebrate the strong moms in my life. I am also realizing how much strength I need- emotionally, AND physically- now that I’m a mom.
I know I will probably never be the sitcom perfect mother (far from it!), but I try hard to be the best mother I can to my little guys and that requires a whole lot of energy, stamina and, well… fitness!
Through her example, my mom taught me how fitness and motherhood go hand and hand, and I saw from personal experience the benefits of having a mom who models healthy lifestyle habits.
I want to pass this strong, healthy example onto my kids and try to do so by showing them how to be ultra strong and healthy at any age!
So in honor of my mom- and the countless other STRONG moms, out there, here are four ways, fitness helps us to be ULTRA STRONG Moms:
1. It helps with stress:This is number one for good reason! How much stress is added to our lives when we add a family? A TON! It can seem overwhelming at times. One of the best ways to reduce stress is to be in shape. There are two parts; exercise itself reduces stress. The other is that if you are fit, the effects of stress are actually lessened. Exercise is a fantastic way for strong moms to fight back against stress. Stress is a contributor to just about every disease we know about. But you can do something about it!
2. It gives you the energy you need to keep up with your kids:I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old that keep me BUSY. I’ll be honest and tell you it can be tough trying to keep up with them! Being fit gives strong moms the energy to be involved in your child’s play as well as their lives! I can remember being a child and my mom always playing with me and I want to give that to my sons too as they grow up.
3. It sets a good example for your children: Childhood obesity is on the rise. What is the number one way to defeat it? Be a good example yourself! According to the CDC, sociological factors such as the lifestyle and fitness of the parents are the number one factor in the health of the children. If you want to train up a child in the way they should go, you have to go that way yourself!
4. It lets you be there for your kids:Let’s face it, people who are healthy and in shape live longer! On average, individuals who worked out for at least 15 minutes a day lived 3-8 years longer. We all want to see those special moments in our kids’ lives like college graduations, weddings and grandkids. But you have to get there. So if you aren’t doing it for yourself, do it for your kids! I know they will appreciate it.
So there you have it, there are a few things I have learned about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle by watching my strong mom.
